Michael focuses his practice on executive compensation related aspects of corporate transactions, as well as more general employment and corporate law matters.
As part of this focus, Michael regularly negotiates and reviews individual employment and separation agreements. He also counsels clients on the design and tax implications of stock options and other equity-based plans and arrangements. Michael has worked on all sides of transactions and he has represented leading private equity funds, public companies, startups, key executives, financial professionals and consultants.
Prior to joining Gunderson Dettmer, Michael founded the Law Offices of Michael N. Richman in 2011, was a senior associate at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett LLP from 2004-2011 (in New York and Palo Alto) and a tax attorney at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP from 2001-2004 (in New York). Michael received his J.D. from Columbia Law School in 2001 and his B.S. from Tufts University in 1994. Michael is a member of the California and New York State Bars.
