Gunderson Client Neptune to Be Acquired by OpenAI
Gunderson Dettmer represented client neptune.ai in its definitive agreement to be acquired by OpenAI. The agreement is Gunderson’s second this year representing a company in its sale to OpenAI, following Statsig’s $1.1 billion acquisition.
Neptune gives researchers a clear and dependable way to track experiments, monitor training, and understand complex model behavior in real time as they build and refine advanced AI models.
The company has worked closely with OpenAI to develop tools that enable researchers to compare thousands of runs, analyze metrics across layers, and surface issues. Their expertise will help OpenAI move faster, learn more from each experiment, and make better decisions throughout the training process.
In the announcement of the acquisition, Neptune founder and CEO Piotr Niedźwiedź said, “This is an exciting step for us. We’ve always believed that good tools help researchers do their best work. Joining OpenAI gives us the chance to bring that belief to a new scale.”
The Gunderson deal team was led by M&A partners Andrew Luh and John Olson and included M&A associates Alex Walsh and Lizzie Jongeward, data privacy partner Anna Westfelt and associates Frida Alim and Carrie Brown, tax partner Mark Foster and associate Morgan Otway, strategic transactions and licensing partner Ben Cukerbaum and associate Alex Lee, executive compensation partner Michael Richman and associate Sofia Rattes, regulatory partner Gregory Kinzelman, employment & labor of counsel Jeff Salomon, and corporate associate Rose Wang.
