Shu Hu
Shu is a partner in our Strategic Transactions & Licensing Practice.
Shu represents life sciences and technology companies in their most strategic intellectual property, commercial, and data-driven transactions. She also routinely advises investors and acquirers on the intellectual property and commercial considerations of venture capital financings, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate partnering deals.
Shu’s practice is anchored in life sciences, where she advises biotechnology, medical device, and digital health companies on the strategic transactions that drive value across the product lifecycle. This includes in-licensing and out-licensing, co-development and collaborations, NewCo, spin-out, and joint-venture structures with venture incubators and pharma partners, foundational in-licenses from universities and research institutes, and clinical trial, CRO/CDMO, manufacturing, and supply agreements that support clinical development and product commercialization. Her practice also extends to life sciences deals at the intersection of AI and drug discovery, where she advises on collaborations and licensing arrangements that bring together machine learning models, proprietary datasets, software tools, and experimental biology across research, development, and diagnostic applications.
Shu also brings extensive, differentiated experience advising clients across capital-intensive technology sectors—including artificial intelligence and AI infrastructure, semiconductors and advanced hardware, and cleantech and sustainable mobility—where IP strategy, foundational licensing, and complex commercial arrangements with IP core licensors and tool providers, foundries and manufacturers, strategic partners and customers, and research institutes are central to value creation. Across these sectors, Shu counsels venture-backed emerging growth companies on high-stakes strategic transactions with leading U.S. and international corporations, including strategic partnerships, licensing and development agreements, collaborations, spin-offs, and joint ventures.
Drawing on her legal training and professional experiences in the U.S., Europe, and China, Shu brings a deep, practical understanding of the different legal, regulatory, and business landscapes, particularly in China and Singapore, and is uniquely positioned to help clients navigate cross-border transactions and commercialize and protect their innovations across jurisdictions.
Prior to joining Gunderson, Shu served as a legal assistant at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva, Switzerland.
