Colombia-Based Kala Announces $6M Seed

April 12, 2023Client News

Gunderson Dettmer represented client Kala, a Colombia-based company building fintech infrastructure for lending, in its $6 million Series Seed financing. Kala’s vertical SaaS product is built for institutions, like banks and credit unions, that want to launch and operate their own credit products.

The Series Seed was led by Cometa and included participation from Canary, Acrew, Clocktower and 99 Startups and will be used for expansion of the product, tech, customer acquisition and customer support teams.

In the announcement of the transaction, Kala’s co-founder Manuel Alemán said, “It’s a perfect time for Kala because banks understand how difficult it is to get a credit product started. We can do this in weeks, not years, and we aim to become the standard for fintech lending in Latin America.”

The Gunderson Dettmer deal team was led by Dan Green and included Daniel Gallo, Nathalya Zara, Jessica Crabill and Ana Cabrera; Lily Kim advised on tax matters.
