Rich is a partner and a co-founder of Gunderson Dettmer’s Boston office. He advises start-ups, emerging growth and public companies and venture and private equity investors in corporate and securities law, venture capital financings, IPOs and public offerings, commercial financings, mergers and acquisitions, and venture fund formations.
For more than 25 years, he has counseled companies and their management teams on a broad range of corporate topics, including company formation, equity structures, financing negotiations, public offerings, corporate governance responsibilities, equity incentive plans and arrangements, employment matters, intellectual property, strategic and commercial transactions, and exit events. He has represented companies in various fields, including AI, SaaS, med device, MedTech, professional services, FinTech, life science, and consumer Tech and consumer products.
Rich also represents institutional investors in fund formation, venture financing, public offerings, tender offers, buyouts, and recapitalization transactions. He has served as investors' counsel for numerous top-tier venture capital, growth, and crossover funds.
Cross-border transactions are a major focus for Rich’s practices, and he has significant experience representing U.S., United Kingdom and European-based venture capital funds and entrepreneurs in cross border U.S., UK and Western, Nordic and Central European transactions. Rich has participated in the National Venture Capital Association (NVCA) Model Document Working Group and helped prepare the NVCA's model venture capital financing documents.

Rich is a graduate of the University of Chicago Law School and Stanford University.
