Gunderson Dettmer Represented Boston Celtics In Pending Sale
Gunderson Dettmer represented as co-counsel long-time client Boston Basketball Partners, led by the Grousbeck family and owner of the Boston Celtics, in its definitive agreement to sell the team to an investor group led by William Chisholm. If approved by the National Basketball Association Board of Governors, the new ownership group will buy a majority of the team at an initial valuation of $6.1 billion.
In the announcement of the transaction, CEO and Governor of Boston Basketball Partners Wyc Grousbeck said, “Bill is a terrific person and a true Celtics fan, born and raised here in the Boston area. His love for the team and the city of Boston, along with his chemistry with the rest of the Celtics leadership, make him a natural choice to be the next Governor and controlling owner of the team. I know he appreciates the importance of the Celtics and burns with a passion to win on the court while being totally committed to the community. Quite simply, he wants to be a great owner. He has asked me to run the team as CEO and Governor for the first three years, and stay on as his partner, and I am glad to do so.”
Founding Partner of Gunderson Dettmer Jay Hachigian added, “It was an honor to work side-by-side with the Boston Celtics management team on this pivotal transaction. Our relationship with the Boston Celtics goes back to 2002 when the family first acquired the team. As a lifelong Celtics fan, I admire and respect what the family built, and I look forward to what’s ahead for the team.”
The Gunderson deal team was led by Jay Hachigian and included Rich Hesp, Tyler Kirtley, Graham Rogers and Taylor DiChello.
