
Greg Volkmar
Greg is a partner in Gunderson Dettmer’s New York office. For more than 20 years, he has advised technology and life science companies throughout the business lifecycle, along with venture capital and private equity funds investing in high-growth potential companies.
Greg is a hands-on lawyer who helps founders and management teams anticipate issues and think strategically, leveraging his extensive experience representing both companies and investors.
For early-stage companies, he advises clients on balancing complexity, cost, and urgency to ensure time and resources are well-spent during critical moments of growth, such as formation, equity and debt financing rounds, and key partnerships. He also has significant experience advising late-stage companies on scaling businesses, organizing secondary liquidity opportunities, and preparing for and executing mergers, acquisitions and public offerings.
Greg represents numerous venture capital, private equity and crossover funds in their US and global activities across all stages. He works with funds on a wide variety of equity and debt financings, mergers and acquisitions, and secondary liquidity transactions, as well as more general portfolio management. Representative clients include Addition, Altimeter, Coatue, D1, FirstMark, Goodwater, Khosla, Lux, and Viking.
Greg serves on the firm’s compensation committee, as the head of the corporate group in New York, and co-chairs the firm’s growth equity practice.
