Andreessen Horowitz Leads Atoms’ Financing
Gunderson Dettmer represented Andreessen Horowitz as the lead investor in the financing of Atoms.
Launched by Uber founder Travis Kalanick, Atoms is a physical automation company building the AI, hardware, and robotics needed to automate the parts of civilization that software can’t reach, such as food production, mining, and transportation. The company will use the new funding to scale its industrial AI and robotics platform and hire hundreds of new team members to help digitize the physical world.
“Atoms will make us more productive in the physical world in the same way that digital computers did for bits,” said Andreessen Horowitz co-founder and general partner Ben Horowitz, in the announcement of the transaction. “He has three of them so far: Atoms Food, Atoms Mining, and Atoms Transport. These are all trillion-dollar industries, so he’s got some work to do, and we’re excited to help him win.”
The Gunderson deal team was led by Jeff Stricker and included Michael Santos, Shawna Reeder, Jace Clegg, Christian Hodges, Matt Porcelli, Morgan Otway, Lizzy Song, Alexis Bello, Anna Westfelt, Emily Cabrera, Jeff Salomon, Cecilia Jeong, Jordan Simon, Zachary Leonard and Becca Xu.
