Gunderson Dettmer represented client Union Square Ventures in the formation of its $200 million Climate Fund. This is Union Square Venture’s second climate fund dedicated to investing, mitigating, and adapting to climate change. The company has invested in a wide range of solutions, including nuclear, retail electricity, waste fuel and e-fuel, soil and forest measurement, and electric vehicles. The new capital will be used to continue investing in early-stage companies that provide adaptation measures for climate change.

In the announcement of the new fund, Partner and General Counsel at Union Square Ventures Samson Mesele said, “Given the state of the climate crisis and the opportunity set in the market, we have a renewed sense of commitment to this investment thesis: we will continue investing in early-stage companies and projects that reduce and remove emissions as well as provide adaptation measures.”

The Gunderson Dettmer fund formation team was led by Brian Hutchings and included Steve Franklin, Geoff Abbot, Alex Chang, Christian Riess, and Sasha Benincasa.
