Gunderson Dettmer Commemorates 2024 Black History Month

February 1, 2024Insights

Gunderson Dettmer commemorates Black History Month in February 2024 with a series of events across its US offices, access to resources and a tribute to this month's theme, African Americans and the Arts.

Themes

African Americans and the Arts

This year, the focus is on the dynamic tapestry of art contributed by African Americans—a rich blend reflective of Black, African, and Caribbean American lived experiences. Artists use their creations to preserve history and empower the community. Influential movements like the Black Arts, Black Renaissance, hip-hop, and Afrofuturism, led by people of African descent, have set global trends. In 2024, join us as we explore the diverse history and life of African American arts and artisans.

Reflection

“Black History Month is, in large part, a celebration of American history.  It represents an acknowledgment of the rich history and culture of Black people, which in turn calls us to recognize and revisit our nation’s history of racial struggle (both past and present) and the success, growth, and unification that Black people have helped achieve and continue striving to achieve.  It is an opportunity not just for Black folks to love and understand who they are, but for many others as well.” - Viviane Scott (Associate Convener of the Black Affinity Group)
