Gunderson Dettmer client Gimlet Media was acquired by Spotify. Gimlet Media is the developer of a digital media platform that produces podcasts and enables listeners to engage in the podcasting community.

With this deal and Spotify’s acquisition of podcast producer Anchor, the company is signaling its intention to branch out of the music streaming business. In the announcement of these acquisitions Spotify co-founder and CEO Daniel Ek said, “These acquisitions will meaningfully accelerate our path to becoming the world’s leading audio platform, give users around the world access to the best podcast content, and improve the quality of our listening experience as well as enhance the Spotify brand. We are proud to welcome Gimlet and Anchor to the Spotify tea, and we look forward to what we will accomplish together.”

Gunderson Dettmer’s deal team was led by Adam Reuben and included Aaron Rubin, Andrew Luh, Mark Foster, Michael Richman, Jake Ornstein, Skylar Polansky, Erika Herman, John Maciejewski, Ben Gloger, Aliya Sanders, Jace Clegg, Laurel Fedder and Vikki Nguyen.
