Leona Health Announces $14M Seed Led by A16z
Gunderson Dettmer represented client Leona Health, a Mexico City-based AI copilot for doctors on WhatsApp, in its $14 million seed financing. Andreesen Horowitz led the round with participation from General Catalyst and Accel.
Leona’s mobile app helps doctors manage patient messages received through WhatsApp by prioritizing, suggesting responses, and enabling team members to reply on the doctor’s behalf.
With the new capital, the company will soon launch a fully autonomous agent that will handle conversational scheduling and simple intake.
In the announcement of the transaction, Leona Health founder and CEO Caroline Merin said, “I thought, as a patient, especially as an American, how incredible that I can text my doctor on WhatsApp, and they’ll respond. The idea is to help the doctor regain time. We’re hearing from our users that they’re saving two to three hours a day by using Leona.”
The Gunderson deal team was led by Randall Clark and included Aaron Rubin, Jace Clegg, Tuca Bihari, Morgan Otway, Rafael Bellaver, Manan Shah, and Paroma Mallick.
