Hi Ventures Announces Ant International Strategic Investment in R2

Gunderson Dettmer represented client Hi Ventures in Ant International’s strategic investment in its portfolio company R2, a Latin American embedded finance platform.

R2 allows platforms like Uber Eats, Rappi, inDrive and PayU to offer working capital to their merchants through a seamless AI-powered system.

The investment marks a new exit for Hi Ventures and will enable both companies to integrate their expertise to improve credit access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in a region facing a credit gap of over $1 trillion.

In the announcement of the transaction, Hi Ventures said in a statement, “We backed R2 at a key inflection point, as the founders began using AI to transform SME lending in Latin America. … Gracias Roger Larach and Roger Teran for the trust, grit, and brilliance that define R2. The Gunderson deal team was led by Brad Krack and included Daniel Gallo.
