Gunderson Dettmer Represents Lead Investors in Sakana AI $100M Series A
Gunderson Dettmer represented clients Lux Capital, Khosla Ventures and New Enterprise Associates in the $100 million Series A financing of Sakana AI, a Japan-based AI research and development company. Sakana AI is dedicated to developing new foundational models based on nature-inspired intelligence. It collaborates with industry leaders like NVIDIA to enhance research capabilities, access advanced data center infrastructure, and foster growth within the AI community in Japan. Sakana AI will use the new capital to invest in top talent and infrastructure and drive the company’s mission.
In the announcement of the transaction, Sakana AI states, “While AI alone will certainly not solve all of Japan’s problems, we believe AI can help! We want to take a longer-term approach. We aim to build a world-class AI lab in Japan, to produce technologies that can help Japan and its allies cope with challenges that Japan will face for the rest of the 21st century. This is a daunting task, especially for a small startup company, which will require years of R&D and building long-term relationships with key stakeholders in the nation.”
The Gunderson Dettmer team was led by Greg Volkmar and included Katie Gardner, David Styles and David Koenig.
