Gunderson Dettmer Represented Databricks in the Acquisition of Neon
Gunderson Dettmer represented client Databricks, a Data and AI company, in its acquisition of Neon, a developer-first, serverless Postgres database company. By integrating Neon’s technology, Databricks aims to deliver a serverless Postgres experience that combines agentic speed, pay-as-you-go economics, and the openness of the Postgres community. The acquisition will also empower organizations to eliminate data silos, simplify infrastructure, and accelerate the development of responsive, reliable, and secure AI agents.
In a statement released by Databricks, the company said, “We are fully committed to the future of the Neon platform. The roadmap remains ambitious, and we intend to continue making Neon the best database platform for developers. After closing, existing customers and partners can expect continued support and innovation – now with the full backing and resources of Databricks. It’s a great moment for existing Neon users, and an exciting one for developers just discovering Neon.”
The Gunderson deal team was led by M&A partner Andrew Luh and M&A associates Alex Walsh and Lizzie Jongeward, corporate associate Kevin Mann, data privacy partner Anna Westfelt and associate Frida Alim, employment and labor partner Natalie Pierce and associate Jordan Simon, executive compensation partner Michael Richman and associate Erik Ward, strategic transactions and licensing partner Aliya Sanders and associate David Koenig, tax partner Jace Clegg and associate Morgan Otway and regulatory compliance partner Greg Kinzelman.
