CAPE Analytics Enters Agreement to be Acquired by Moody’s Corporation
Gunderson Dettmer represented client CAPE Analytics, a leading artificial intelligence platform that delivers proprietary, instant and accurate risk insights for property at the individual address level, in entering an agreement to be acquired by Moody’s Corporation, an industry-leading Intelligent Risk Platform and catastrophe risk modeling for the insurance sector. With the acquisition of CAPE, Moody’s will provide its customers more in-depth, property-specific data than ever before, including building characteristics, firmographic data, peril risk and average annual loss estimates, geospatial AI analytics, valuation, probability of default models and more.
In the announcement of the transaction, CAPE Analytics CEO Ryan Kottenstette said, “Moody’s is continuing to deliver on a strategy to build a leading, at-scale suite of offerings founded in innovation, as demonstrated by their acquisition and subsequent investment in RMS, more recently with Praedicat, and now with CAPE. CAPE broadens the aperture beyond risk and modeling into everyday underwriting, quoting, and eligibility workflows. The resources to continue to deepen innovation in a robust way in this part of the value chain will benefit carriers with a broader array of rapidly developing solutions. Moody’s has become a leader on the risk side of insurance and can, in combination with CAPE, bring a much deeper set of solutions to carriers’ underwriting workflows.”
The Gunderson Dettmer deal team was co-led by Corporate Partner Trevor Knapp and M&A Partner John Olson, and included M&A/corporate advice from Francesca Crisera Ruiz, Anthony Ramirez, Travis Glock and Alan Gao, IP/commercial advice from Tim Greene, Radhika Raman, Yue Yang and Killian McDonald, privacy advice from Anna Westfelt and James Gately, employee benefits advice from Emily Cabrera and Erik Ward, labor and employment advice from Vivianne Scott, tax advice from Lily Kim and Tina Xu, and regulatory advice from Gregory Kinzelman.
