Bob is a founder and Chairman Emeritus of the firm.
Bob is the founding partner of the firm, which now has eight domestic and two international offices and more than 350 business lawyers. He is internationally recognized as one of the most accomplished lawyers in the fields of emerging growth companies and venture capital and he has represented parties to many of the most significant emerging growth company transactions (financings, IPOs and mergers and acquisitions) over the last three or more decades.
He has served as a Board member of numerous public companies (fellow directors including Roy Vagelos, former Chairman and CEO of Merck, the late Roger Enrico, former CEO of Pepsi, Joe Lacob, owner of the Golden State Warriors) and brings not only his legal expertise (he is, for example, a Fellow of the American College of Governance Counsel) to his clients but real-world, practical experience of serving on private and public company boards. Bob's client relationships have included well-known figures ranging from Presidential candidates and owners of major sports teams to Nobel Prize winners.
Bob has been recognized in The Best Lawyers in America for 20+ years, The Lawdragon 500 Leading Lawyers in America and other rankings, and has received numerous other honors and accolades (for example, Corporate Lawyer of the Year - San Francisco, 2012). Bob was named to The Legal 500 Hall of Fame for Venture Capital and Emerging Companies. He has written and spoken extensively on various legal topics and is the co-editor of the leading treatise in the field.
Bob earned a JD from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was Executive Editor of The University of Chicago Law Review, as well as an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and an MA from Stanford University.
