UpCodes Launches New Copilot Tool and $3.5M Series A

May 30, 2023Client News

Gunderson Dettmer represented client UpCodes, a searchable platform for building codes, in its $3.5 million Series A financing led by Building Ventures. UpCodes’ platform uses machine learning and data analysis to combine the core building codes and integrates related information including amendments, building bulletins, directives and more into a searchable database.

Alongside its financing, UpCodes announced its new AI-based tool that will make navigating the world of building codes even more streamlined. Built on ChatGPT-4, UpCodes’ Copilot serves as a research assistant, answering complicated code questions and annotating responses with links to relevant sections of code.

The new capital will be used to grow its team and continue developing its AI-based tools including Copilot.

In the announcement of the transaction, Building Ventures’ Partner Alan Prager said, “By unifying and maintaining all building codes in an AI-powered platform, UpCodes is transforming code compliance for the built environment. We are thrilled to lead their Series A investment.”

The Gunderson Dettmer deal team was led by Brad Krack and included Hannah Porter and Travis Glock.
