Gunderson Dettmer announced today that it has opened its eighth office in Ann Arbor, Michigan to support the venture capital and emerging growth company markets in the Midwest.

“We have been active in the Midwest for many years," said Robert V. Gunderson, Jr., a founding partner and Chairman of the firm. “As the level of venture capital and emerging growth company activity has continued to grow, we felt it was the right time to open a Midwest office. The region has long had a number of incredibly strong universities, medical centers and research institutions, and we believe that the region is finally attracting the attention from venture capitalists and other early stage investors that the area merits.” The office will be led by corporate partner Marcia Hatch, who is relocating from the firm's Silicon Valley office. "Marcia is an exceptionally talented lawyer who engenders great client loyalty," said Gunderson. "We are confident that the Ann Arbor office will be a significant and successful office. Marcia has a wide range of experience with technology and life science startups and representation of venture capital and other early stage investors as well as significant M&A and public offering experience."

Ms. Hatch is an alumna of the University of Michigan Law School and has an extensive network of relationships in the region. Prior to joining Gunderson Dettmer as a partner in 2008, she was a partner with Heller Ehrman, which she joined as a partner when that firm acquired Venture Law Group. She began her legal career at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York
