JIM is a partner in our Intellectual Property and Technology Law Group and is based in our Silicon Valley office. Jim specializes in the representation of emerging growth technology companies in the areas of corporate partnering and strategic alliances, technology acquisition, licensing and commercialization, joint venture and spin-off transactions, and intellectual property strategy, counseling and protection. Jim's practice also focuses on the intellectual property and technology aspects of venture capital financings, public offerings and mergers and acquisitions. His expertise spans a broad array of industries including computer software and hardware, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, telecommunications, wireless, e-commerce, and music/entertainment. Prior to joining our firm in 1999, Jim specialized in all aspects of intellectual property and high-tech commercial litigation, including patent, copyright, trade secret, trademark and unfair competition matters.

Jim is a co-author of Corporate Partnering: Structuring and Negotiating Domestic and International Strategic Alliances and has been a speaker at the Biotechnology Law Institute on issues relevant to corporate partnering and strategic transactions in biotechnology. He holds a J.D. from the University of California at Davis and a B.A. in Economics from the University of California at Los Angeles. He is a member of the Intellectual Property Section of the California Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the California State Bar.
